Hi Folks,
I am in a bit of a peculiar situation. I bought an Isfahan (value around $2000) rug from a dealer in the US. The rug turned out to have some issues and I wanted to return it back to the dealer. According to him though, that is problematic, because of the embargo on Iranian goods coming into the US.

Can you offer an advice as to whether the embargo also applies to goods originally bought from the US or any advice as to how to resolve the matter. I suggested to him he find a dealer located outside the US to whom I can return the rug, but he is unable to find anybody.

regards

There is, in fact, an embargo on all Iranian goods. I'm not aware of any loopholes, and honestly, I wouldn't pursue it. You run the risk of having this rug confiscated at customs and then you are out of your rug and your chance at a refund. I wish I had better advice!

The embargo covers all iranian rugs - no matter if the where in the USA before or not. I would also refuse to take the risk sending it back to USA - i totally agree about that with jahanandsons. Might be easier if you find a buyer yourself?

Thanks folks. I am really very upset about the whole affair, because the defects were obvious, yet the dealer portrayed the goods as being brand new and in excellent condition. As I entered into this transaction in good faith, I now feel I was mislead and also feel dumb.

Perhaps one way forward is to seek a partial refund and try and offload the rug at a low price very quickly because I have no interest in hanging on to it.

A fair outcome though is for the original dealer to take responsibility, find a dealer outside the US who is willing to take the rug at whatever price they agree to and refund me my original purchase price. I don't want to be involved in such a thing I did not ask for that.

You bought it in the US and the dealer (in the US) refuses to take it back? That has nothing to do with the embargo. It has everything to do with the integrity of the dealer.
It sounds like you are simply stuck because this dealer refuses to take the rug back.
Too bad. There are still dealers "out there" that do not have strong customer service values. Your best recourse might be thru credit card company IF you paid with plastic.
Good Luck.

sorry if that was not clear from my original posting, but I am based out side the US ad rug was exported from the US.
If I am based in the US, I'll have obtained a refund no matter what the dealer want.

To get partial refund and sell the rug at lower price might be the way.
