Got 2 what I think are pretty nice rugs in Afghanistan 10 years ago and wanted to know more about them and what they might be worth to see if I needed to get them appraised for replacement value. Long story short is that I got to know the dealer pretty well and bout a lot of small cheep handmade from him and he started to bring special rugs for me to look at saying they were very nice and much better than the other ones he brought to the bazaar. Then he would go into his cart and pull out better ones and I bought these two. The tree of life is 3X5 and the one that looks like a Nain (to me anyway) is 4x6 1/2 and tassels are 9 thread, or 3x3. The larger piece is a good looking Persian Nain 9 LAA with unique colors, the smaller piece is probably a Kashmir with a relatively low quality. I would suggest you have the Nain appraised for purposes of replacement value and not the smaller one.

Thanks for the quick reply. What kind of rough estimate would you give on both of them even though the one I thought would be worth more isn't as nice?

A fair market value for the Nain would be $1200 and the smaller one around $500-$600.
