Good morning everyone,
my name is Agnieszka, I am traveling around India, right now I stopped in New Delhi. This is my first post on this forum. I would like to purchase a kashmiri carpet somewhere here. As I do not have much idea about the topic, I would very much appreciate any information that would help me make a good choice.
I found this carpet in a small shop in New Delhi, Main Bazaar. The owner says he is from Kashmir himself and hires number of families from there to make carpets, shoals, etc. The carpet is ca. 3' per 5' big. Silk on silk. I counted at least 7 colors and the man claims the threads to be naturally dyed.
Separate story is a KPSI index. He says the carpet is ca.1250 kpsi. I counted ca. 25 knots horizontally and his KPSI number sounded to me a bit overestimated. However, he said that the knots are counted double, on one side of the carpet and on the other one (here: 25 knows x 25 knots are 625kpsi. But they are doubled so KPSI is 1250).
The carpet is priced 48 000 INR (ca. 900$).
Everything concerning rugs is very new to me so I would appreciate any help. And of course Merry Christmas to you all :)
Best regards,
Agnieszka Nowak.
