Hello,


This is an old rug that has been in my family for about 50 years and prior to that it was purchased in the main bazaar of Tehran used from a dealer there.
It has 2 spots in need of repair and the fringe on the rug is not even as it looks like some areas have worn out.
It measures 94x106 centimeters.
Looking to find out where it was made, when, what it means and maybe value even though i am not interested in selling.
I also like to know if i should repair it or just leave it alone rolled up in the closet :)

Your rug is a nice example of jewish art in Iran. As you probably have seen the writing on the rug is in hebrew. The rug is most likely made in the city of Kashan (at least the colors, the knots and style make this the most likely origin). It was made around 1930 / 40. It is fine wool made on a cotton foundation. I would have it washed and fixed by a professional rug restaurator. Don`t forget new moth protection. It will cost a bit, but it is a nice and rare collectable rug. The value is not so high, in this condition around 500 - 600 US$. If you find a collector for jewish designed rugs, I am sure the possible price is higher.

As KAD says above, this is an old Persian Kashan and definitely worth the cost to restore and keep.
