I'm certain it's silk and I'm certain it've very fine and beautiful but other than than I hate to even extend my quess or thoughts on the forum. Certainly Chinese is on that list but there are others.

I had never seen the light red silk fringe before. It does has the translucent nature of silk

The rug is 82"X123"

I would apreciate any ID since it is driving me crazy. I'm not looking to buy the rug as it is mine

Thanks

Rugpro,
I got it at a country auction for a very low price. I did a burn test, but until I take anything to an expert I should never say I'm sure. I'm put another picture of the full rug. Thanks

scratch what I said before completely.

This is an extremely fine isfahan carpet. Potentially 80 years old. An early 20th century. If it is as fine as you say, it is an extremely good find. Easily in five digits retail

Not a good picture, but I count in the 500 vincity. Not bad for a 127"X82" rug.
Please correct my count if I'm wrong.

Thanks again RugPro

That isn't a simple answer. I have two dogs and I have two grown daughters who both live and work in Europe who seem to love to buy cats and then love to "would you mind watching my cat" when they leave. It's for that reason I tend towards having and keeping the smaller rugs like the qums I can hang from the wall safe and sound.
It will be harder to decide if I can feel comfortable leaving a rug like the isfahan open to the elements. A heavy duty heriz definately. A fine isfahan, I need to check my insurance rider first. That is also why I'm having my qum and some turkmen churvals appraised.

Thanks,

I got my $$$$ Isfahan insured (cheaper than insuring fine jewelry). The thing with my insurance company they would only insure it if it is hanging on a wall (like art)...I guess they 'know' what happens to rugs left on the floor!!!

Congratulations - fantastic high grade persain Isfahan rug. Does it have a signature? Design of border looks like Seirafian.

No as I said on the other post I sold it at Christie's auction. Buyer paid $10,000 minus 15% minus 2% insurance minus $400 for catalogue space minus shipping. Half the rugs didn't sell and they still had to pay a majority of the cost.
