I'm in Afghanistan and am looking to purchase a Persian rug. I'm currently looking at four rugs and trying to determine a little beyond which one looks best. I personally like a couple of the rugs and am hoping to find information about which rug might have a more unique story behind it, is more rare, or simply is financially worth more.

I don't have any doubt that they are real Qum carpets as the rug dealer has a long and reliable history of selling exactly what he says he has. From Kashmir to Qum he has them all and I've spent my share of time reading about how to identify the real thing, not to say I have any worthwhile experience purchasing I normally just window shop, study, and continue to try and learn more and more about the rugs meanings and story before I make my big purchase. I would like to know as much as I can about the shapes, patterns, and colors.

Hopefully someone here can tell me a little more about these rugs and maybe what they believe they're worth as I have not gone to the bargaining table yet. I don't have the KNPSI info, but I'm sure the KNPSI is plenty.

Thanks for any help and knowledge transfer!

I know the photos aren't great, but they're what I have at this point in time.

These are Persian Quom rugs and it looks like the first one with the Gunbad design is silk and the rest are kurk wool. This first one also has a signature: "Iran-Quom-Rahimi" which is not really a famous signature in Quom but still a nice piece. Also, the pattern on this one is the most unique. As far as the market value, better images, KPSI, and their sizes would help to determine what they exactly are, and what they would be worth.

Alright I have a little more info. All four carpets are 6ft x 4ft and between 800-850 kpsi. All four carpets are Qom Silk. The last carpet is around 50 years old. Does this information bring any more interesting facts out of these carpets? Thanks for your reply.

The additional information will definitely help, but better images would help even more. I still think the first one is more valuable because of the unique pattern, and for the last one being old as you say it is, does not really increase the value. I would say $2500-$2800 for the first one and the rest around $2200 each if they are in good condition with no worn spots or repairs.
