Another from our home that we believe to be Qashqai. It is 6'8" by 9'3" and we bought it from a "garage" sale about 15 years ago (in Sacramento, CA) for $300. It was nasty dirty when bought and rather worn on the edges. We water washed it ourselves and it is now in our main living area. The overview is taken from the top edge of the rug. Any information would be very welcome. I intend to post several more including what we believe to be Kashan, Bakhtyari, Cloudband, Malayer, and several others. Any help on value would be of interest, but we are mainly interested in identification for our own understanding and to learn more about rugs. Thanks for any help! RHA

This is a Persian Shiraz with a wool foundation which is typical. Qashqai tribes live around Shiraz area in Fars province and this is the reason some people refer to Shiraz rugs as Qashqai which usually has a cotton foundation, natural dyes in many cases, and is much finer than a Shiraz, and of course, more expensive. However, the price is very good. In order to preserve it, I recommend you get the selvedge binding repaired, and when it is time to have it cleaned again, let a professional cleaner do it for you. Washing a rug at home can damage it seriously. There is a short article about washing rugs in our blog if you would like to get more information about the subject.

I will check as you suggest. Is selvage repair quite expensive? Also, do you have an idea of the age of this rug? Many thanks!

This rug is about 50-55 years old. The repair on the binding will cost $200 and will be a good protection for it.
