Hi,

I bought a large beautiful Khal Mohammadi (4x3 metre) to replace a slightly smaller (3.5x2.4 metre) synthetic (olefin) well used Egyptian rug.

I don't have storage space to store the Egyptian rug and I don't want to get rid of it as I may need it in the distant future.

Can I use the Egyptian rug to pad under the Afghani or is the synthetic olefin bad long term for the wool of the afghani? (noting that I could use the Egyptian either upside up or down). Doing so will also provide increased insulation (I live in a relatively cold climate and the hardwood floor is pretty cold).

Also, could the smaller dimensions of the Egyptian create creases long term in the Afghani along the edges of the pad? (the Olefin is only slightly thicker than the Afghani so not a great drop)

Thanks

This is very smart. I do not think that it will damage your new rug in any way. However, the rug on the top will gradually start "walking" in whatever direction the nap of the bottom rug is as you keep using it. I would suggest you turn the bottom rug on its back and place the new rug on top of it to avoid this problem.
