Hey Guys,

Just joined the forum. I have always loved oriental rugs ever since a sea year to Turkey where I visited a workshop where they made them. My buddy just moved into a smaller apartment and gave me his rug. I guess it has been in his family for a while and he seemed to think it might be worth something. My wife and I really enjoy it and would love to find a matching one of the same style if it isn't worth too much.

If anyone has any ideas let me know.

A beautiful Persian Tabriz rug, about 50 years old. The design is called "Tile", also known as "Kheshti". Similar pattern can be found in Persian Bakhtiar, Quom, or Kerman rugs. Although it is a very decorative pattern, the drawback is that all motifs, vases, trees, and animals look upsidedown from one direction. These are called One-waypatterns. If you mention the size, I will give you the current market value for it.

does anyone have any suggestions on books to read to learn about oriental rugs, how they are made, the styles etc etc.

For that size, your rug is worth around $2800-$3000 to a private user if it has no repairs, damages, worn spots, unusually short pile, or any stains. As for books on the subject of Oriental Rugs, search online and you will be able to find lots of good material to read.
